The Combo is the semi-hollow Mosrite. It arrived in 1965 alongside the Celebrity and Joe Maphis models, keeping the reverse Ventures shape and German carve but hollowing the body out, with a carved top and back glued together much like a Rickenbacker and a single bound f-hole. It came as a six-string, as the Combo XII 12-string and as a bass, with an angled asymmetric headstock, the full Mosrite pickups with pole pieces, and a Moseley vibrato, a half vibrato made for arched tops, or a trapeze tailpiece. Session players liked it, and Billy Strange played a Combo and a Combo XII on the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds. Production ended when Mosrite went under in 1969. Don't mix it up with the Celebrity, a different semi-acoustic with a Höfner-made body and big f-holes, or with the Joe Maphis single-neck, which shares the shape but has no f-hole. A clean six-string Combo with its own vibrato is the one we'd chase, since it has the same thin neck as the Ventures Model.

How to date one
Tym Guitars lists Combo serials with G or H prefixes (R on the bass), stamped at the fretboard end. Pot date codes and the knob style narrow it down, with M top-hat knobs from late 1965.
What to check before you buy
Old Mosrite lacquer checks heavily and the tiny original frets are often replaced. Moseley sometimes refinished or updated guitars sent back for repair, so look for swapped parts and refinishes.
01F-hole: Look at the body in the photos. A Combo has one bound f-hole on a German-carved top, and no f-hole means a Joe Maphis model.
02Serial: Ask for a close photo of the fretboard end. A US Combo should have a stamped serial there with a G, H or R prefix.
03Headstock: Read the headstock in the photos. It should say Mosrite of California, and plain Mosrite usually means a Japanese copy.
04Tailpiece: Check the vibrato or tailpiece in the photos. A Moseley vibrato, half vibrato or trapeze is correct, with no filled holes around it.
05Binding: Zoom in on the top and back binding and the f-hole binding. It should be intact and match the age of the finish.
06Frets: Ask whether the guitar has been refretted. Original Mosrite frets are very small and low, and a good refret is fine for a player.

With 5 listings, three of them the same red 1967 from Japanese dealers, the $2,525–3,100 band isn't a market read. The one we'd look at first is goodbridgemusic's 1966–67 sunburst at $3,094 delivered from the US, while the red 1967 asks $2,478–3,065 depending on which dealer lists it, and trh-universe's 1966 asks $3,382 from Japan. Japanese Mosrite reproductions exist, so confirm a US Bakersfield guitar from the photos, looking for a serial stamped at the fretboard end with a G or H prefix, a headstock reading Mosrite of California, and one bound f-hole on a German-carved top, since no f-hole means a Joe Maphis model. Ask whether it's been refretted and check for filled holes around the vibrato or tailpiece.
