Gretsch built the Anniversary for its 75th birthday in 1958 and priced it low enough to sell, so it stayed in the catalog for years. There are two. The Single Anniversary (6124 in sunburst, 6125 in Two-Tone Smoke Green) has one pickup at the neck, and the Double Anniversary (6117 and 6118) has two. Both share the 6120's 16-inch laminated maple body and 24.5-inch scale but skip the bound neck, the f-hole binding and the Bigsby, with a G tailpiece instead. The 1958–1959 guitars have Filter'Trons and ebony boards. In 1960 Gretsch swapped in its own Hi-Lo'Tron single-coils, then rosewood boards, and Guitar.com calls that the start of a far less desirable era. A stereo Double came in 1961, Two-Tone Tan joined in 1963, and the Smoke Green finish and the Single were dropped under Baldwin. For a player, a 1958–1959 Double is the most affordable way into 1950s Filter'Tron Gretsch, and the Hi-Lo'Tron guitars suit anyone who likes a clean, bright single-coil.

How to date one
Filter'Trons and an ebony board mean 1958–1959, and Hi-Lo'Trons mean 1960 or later. The headstock nameplate arrived in mid-1959, and before 1965 the serial is on the label inside the body.
What to check before you buy
Owners sometimes add a bridge Filter'Tron and extra controls to a Single Anniversary, which Guitar.com warns can devalue an original. Binding on Gretsches this age has often crumbled.
01Pickup count: Count the pickups and check the model number on the label. A 6124 or 6125 should have one neck pickup, and extra holes or knobs mean it's been modified.
02Pickup type: Look at the pickup covers in the photos. Filter'Trons fit 1958–1959, and Hi-Lo'Trons with a single row of poles fit 1960 on.
03Finish: Look at the back and neck in the photos as well as the top. A Two-Tone guitar has a light Smoke Green top over a darker green back and neck.
04Tailpiece: Check the tailpiece in the photos. Anniversaries came with a G tailpiece, so a Bigsby was added later.
05Binding: Zoom in on the top and back binding. It should be intact, with no crumbling or newer plastic patched in.
06Neck set: Ask for the action at the 12th fret and a side photo of the neck joint. Low action with bridge height to spare means no reset is due.
Buying guide
Which one to buy
§ Oct 11, 2026
Buy a 1958–59 Single for the Filter'Tron sound, where the US-listed 1959 6124 at $3,050 delivered is our pick, or a 1960s or early-1970s Hi-Lo'Tron guitar at $1,499–2,340 from US and Canadian sellers if you want a clean single-coil player. About 18 are listed and most ask $2,025–4,250 delivered, while Japanese dealers ask $3,407–4,398 for 1958–59 Singles and $7,200 for a 1959 Smoke Green 6125. Count the pickups and check the label's model number, since owners often added a bridge pickup and extra knobs to Singles, and check the tailpiece, because Anniversaries left the factory with a G tailpiece. Skip the refinished 1964 6118 from a 94.1% seller, and ask about the 1958 titled 6125 in sunburst, a finish that belongs to the 6124.

The lowest delivered Anniversary here, a 1966 Double with its original hard case in the title. It's from the Hi-Lo'Tron years, which collectors rate lower, so it's a player's guitar at a player's price.
A 1960 Single titled with its original hard case, under the band. 1960 is the first Hi-Lo'Tron year, so check the label model number and look for added pickup holes or knobs.

Titled 1959, a Filter'Tron year, from a US seller at about $350 under the cheapest Japanese 1959 6124. Check the Filter'Tron covers, the ebony board and the label serial in the photos.
